What is a Green Home Audit?

One of the most common activities that Green Consultants undertake is to perform a green audit in the homes and apartments of families in their neighborhoods and communities. Our purpose in performing a green home audit is to conserve energy, conserve water, conserve natural resources and to otherwise act in ways that promote a cleaner, safer environment, healthier homes, and a more sustainable planet. Green audits and suggestions will help your client save a considerable amount of money on energy, water, and other resource-related expenditures and inefficiencies. Most occupants see an ROI within a year and save a great deal of money over time.

In an environmental home audit, your consulting expertise will focus on providing the following services:

Saving power. One of the fundamental tasks of a green home audit is the energy audit in which you identify ways to save electricity, natural gas, and other forms of power at home. You can help clients accomplish this goal by making wiser electric appliance choices, better lighting choices, smarter heating and cooling choices.

In addition to consuming power and water, there are many other ways, both inside and outside the home in which homeowners and apartment dwellers can influence the environment around them. In addition to directly engaging in behaviors that directly influence the environment, eating and food decisions made by consumers have a passive effect on the world and can adversely affect health. As an Eco Consultant, you will educate clients how to improve nutrition and health, instructing them in the benefits organic and natural foods, the reduction of footprints with seasonal and local produce, and the benefits of growing food.

Recycle! Reuse! Reduce! Recycling and reuse are well-known practices, and they have particular application within the home. As an Eco Consultant, therefore, we will assist you in learning how to better recycle and reuse paper and cardboard, how to better recycle and reuse plastics and plastic bags, and how to recycle and reuse everything else.

Building a green community. For those individuals who are interested, we also will help you to learn how to become more involved in local and national environmental causes, to promote a greener and healthier community, and to become more involved in green recreational activities.
